Dr Krishna Gopal Karmakar recently retired as Professor of Management of the S P Jain Institute of Management and Research (ranked 77th in the World) at Mumbai, after 36 years as a bank executive in State Bank of India, Reserve Bank of India and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. His administrative experience has been varied having in-depth experience of commercial banking, central banking and development banking. He also has experience of turnaround strategies of rural banks/co-operatives and having hands-on experience of micro-finance and rural development. He has published 12 books on various topics like Micro-Finance, Financial Inclusion and Post-Harvest Needs of Smallholder Farmers, etc. and have 137 papers published in various Journals.
Dr Karmakar relinquished charge as MD/CEO in NABARD in 2011 and was also Chairman of NABCONS, the consultancy wing of NABARD for 5 years. He has been Director on the Boards of 18 prestigious institutions in India such as AICI, New Delhi, CMA- IIM Ahmadabad, NIRD, Hyderabad, KVIC, Mumbai, etc. He is now Chairman at the MCX Investor Protection Fund, Mumbai since December 2013 and am on the Board of several reputed NGOs in India, since 2011.
He has great interest in the Agricultural Supply Chain and how it can be tweaked to the needs of small holder farmers in India. He is also interested in agricultural marketing systems and in small-sized farmer warehouses. He has also conducted research studies in commodity crops like Tea and Soya-bean and Village Industrial Clusters in India.
